What to do with over-ripe bananas seems to be the over-arching definitive question? of my life. You can go ahead and even put it on my Taj Mahal . As and when.
You see, all of us have been told and taught that bananas are super foods, way, way before “super-foods” was a hyphenated buzz word. They are full of energy, easy to eat – even while travelling, no washing, just peel, easy on the stomach and wallet, available across the globe. But to me, they are mush.
No, not mush as in love mush. Mush as in “yuck-mush”. There, you can go ahead and use this as the latest hyphenated buzz word. However, being in love-mush, I ended up marrying a person who distinctively loves bananas. This would have been avoided had I had an arranged marriage, because I am super confident that my parents would have verified everything and matched our mushes too. But that’s that.
My younger one also loves bananas, especially when she leaves her meal half-way, claiming she can’t have a bite more , because she is full and yet Can.Eat.Banana. The consequence of this being ; our house is always stocked with bananas, which also means that our house is also always stocked with over-ripe bananas ; which no one will touch, forget eat.
And me, the non-bananaer has to do something with them. I asked a friend once what to do with over-ripe bananas. She said there was a recent bereavement in the family ; on the demise of an old aunt. And she served banana fritters to everyone. Aunt gone ; but hey bananas too. One looks at the mushier side of everything, okay?
I think subconsciously I am always thinking of over-ripe bananas because the first thing I baked in my Diwali gift to self is this uber-gorgeous Banana cake.
Suddenly, I am in love-mush with banana-mush.
