Day -1 : Let me soak matki (moth beans) for misal pav. Pat on own back for remembering to soak in time , before retiring for bed. Let me soak a good quantity ; we all love ourselves some good spicy misal pav with farsan and raw onion.
Day 1: They have swollen up so well. But Oh Oh! looks like I soaked quite a lot of the matki. Let me keep some aside. Else we will end up eating misal pav three days in a row. Makes good use of plastics boxes and refrigerator.
Soaking pulses gives one first-hand experience on how ego gets swollen. You keep feeding the ego ; and then you wonder how did it swell so much?
Now, I have spoilt misal pav for you ; you will never again eat misal pav without thinking of egos. Boiled and swollen.
Everyone enjoys the misal pav, and the leftover gets stashed away for Day 2. Makes good use of plastics boxes and refrigerator.
Day 2: Let’s finish the leftover misal pav. Now, since the misal quantity isn’t enough for all ; ensure that farsan and raw onion quantity is more than the misal ; or atleast as much. Proportions are everything in food, they say.
“We are having misal again?” Husband. Gets silenced by The Look.
“Of course, misal tastes best next day.” Quick , good come-back from Husband. Slow clap from me.
Day 3: Aha. What is this plastic box? The extra soaked matki. No, the matki isn’t soaked extra. The quantity was extra. Let me make misal pav. Don’t we all love ourselves some good spicy misal pav with farsan and raw onion?
“We are having misal three days in a row.” You-know-who.
“So, what’s wrong with three? You are superstitious now? It’s not like we are having misal thirteen days in a row. That would be superstitious.” You-know-who. Good come-back from me.
“Just saying. That we are eating same thing everyday.”
“Well, aren’t we using the same, you know, toothpaste every day?”
“What? Please don’t compare apples to oranges.”
“You wouldn’t know a thing about apples and oranges. You only savour bananas.”
“What? We were talking about misal.”
“Exactly. Why you got apples and oranges in between? And anyway, finish up what is served. Because if it’s leftover , you know what you will be having tomorrow, right?”
He had punctured my too-much-soaked ego.
But little does he know, I always keep some aside to be liberally used on another day. Plastic boxes and refrigerator can come in handy in numerous ways.
Nice…reader’s delight! The soaked matki, misal, plastic boxes , refrigerators n a light sprinkle of sarcastic humor… worth a deeper thought….
